Key Takeaways
- Dual token staking lets holders stake one token and earn rewards in a different token, paid from a separate on-chain vault.
- StakePoint is the only Solana platform offering standard staking, dual token staking and LP farming from one place.
- If the staked token pays holder rewards, pool creators can enable reward distributions so stakers claim them separately without unstaking. No other Solana staking platform supports this.
- Dual token pools support any SPL or Token-2022 token on both sides, including transfer fee tokens.
- Pool creation costs 1 SOL and takes under 5 minutes with no code.
What Is Dual Token Staking on Solana?
Dual token staking is a staking pool where holders stake one token and earn rewards paid in a different token. The staking token and the reward token are separate mints held in separate on-chain vaults, so a Solana project can reward holders with SOL, USDC, or a partner project's token instead of inflating its own supply.
A standard staking pool pays you back in the token you staked. Deposit TOKEN, earn TOKEN. A dual token pool breaks that link. Everything else about the design follows from it.
On StakePoint, dual token pools are created by selecting Different Reward Token during pool creation, cost 1 SOL to deploy, and support SPL and Token-2022 tokens on both sides of the pool.
Dual Token Staking vs Same Token Staking vs Reflections
| Dual token staking | Same token staking | Reflections | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you stake | Your project token | Your project token | Nothing, holding is enough |
| What you earn | A different mint | The same mint | The same or an external mint |
| Funded by | A reward vault deposited upfront | A reward vault deposited upfront | Trading fees or transfer tax |
| Lock required | Optional lock period | Optional lock period | No lock |
| Effect on your supply | No new emission if reward is SOL, USDC or a partner token | Emission of your own token | No emission |
| Best for | Partner deals, treasury yield, LP farms | Simple holder rewards | Passive holder rewards |
Reflections and dual token staking are not alternatives. Plenty of pools run both.
Why Would a Project Pay Rewards in a Different Token?
Partner incentives. Two projects fund each other's pools. Your holders earn their token, their holders earn yours. Both communities end up holding an asset they had no prior reason to buy.
Stablecoin yield. Paying rewards in USDC gives holders real yield without inflating supply. It is expensive, and that is the signal. It shows a treasury that actually exists.
Ecosystem tokens. If you run a governance token and a utility token, staking one to earn the other distributes the second without an airdrop and without a snapshot.
Treasury led rewards. You hold SOL from a launch. Paying it out as staking rewards converts idle treasury into holder retention instead of sell pressure on your own chart.
LP farming. Stakers deposit LP tokens and earn a project token. This requires dual token support by definition, because an LP token and a reward token are never the same mint.

Why Token-2022 Transfer Fees Break Most Reward Vaults
This is the failure most no-code staking builders have not solved, and it is worth understanding before you fund anything.
Token-2022 introduced transfer fees. A token with a 3% transfer fee does not move 100 tokens when you send 100 tokens. It moves 97. The rest is withheld by the token program itself.
Put that inside a staking pool and the arithmetic stops working.
A user stakes 1,000 tokens. The vault receives 970. If the program records 1,000 as the staked balance, the vault is short by 30 tokens. That shortfall compounds with every deposit until the last users to withdraw find the vault empty.
The reward side breaks the same way in reverse. Fund a reward vault with 1,000,000 fee bearing tokens and the vault holds 970,000. If APR was calculated against the full 1,000,000, the pool runs dry before the duration ends.
With dual token staking you can have a fee on the staking token, a fee on the reward token, or both, each at a different percentage. That is four combinations a program has to handle correctly rather than one.
Handling it means reconciling the amount actually received rather than the amount requested, on both sides, at deposit, withdrawal and claim. Many staking programs were written against the original SPL token program and assume the number sent equals the number that arrives.
The question to ask any staking platform before you deposit: what happens to vault accounting when a transfer fee withholds part of the deposit? A platform that has solved it will answer immediately and specifically.
How StakePoint Handles Dual Token Pools
StakePoint's current staking engine stores the reward mint as a separate field on the pool account, so the staking token and reward token are independent from the moment the pool is created.
Token-2022 on both sides. Transfer fee tokens work as the staking asset, the reward asset, or both. Vault accounting reconciles against amounts actually received.
Claiming does not reset your lock. Stake timestamps and claim timestamps are tracked separately, so claiming partway through a lock period does not restart the clock. Older staking programs commonly reset it, which silently punishes the users who engage most.
Accumulator based rewards. Rewards accrue against a global accumulator with high precision scaling rather than a fixed per second rate, so distribution stays correct as stakers enter and exit mid-pool.
Non-custodial. Both vaults are Program Derived Addresses on Solana mainnet. No private keys exist for them. Nobody, including StakePoint, can move staked funds before the user unstakes.
Verifiable. Every pool has a public URL and every vault is inspectable on Solscan and Solana Explorer.
How to Create a Dual Token Staking Pool on Solana
To create a dual token staking pool on Solana, connect the wallet holding your reward tokens at stakepoint.app/for-projects, choose Different Reward Token, select the staking token and the reward token, set the reward amount and pool duration, then sign to deploy on-chain. It takes a few minutes and costs 1 SOL.
Go to stakepoint.app/for-projects and connect the wallet holding your reward tokens
Open pool creation and choose Different Reward Token rather than same token rewards
Select the staking token, which is what holders will deposit
Select the reward token and set the amount going into the reward vault
Set pool duration and minimum lock period
Confirm and sign to deploy on-chain
Pool creation is 1 SOL, one time, with no subscription and no tiered plan. APR is derived automatically from the reward deposit, pool duration and total staked, rather than being a number you set and then have to fund.
If you want stakers depositing LP tokens instead of a plain token, use LP farming instead. Same mechanics, priced against the LP token.

How to Choose the Reward Token
Liquidity matters more than price. A reward token nobody can sell without heavy slippage is not a reward. Check pool depth before committing to it.
Match reward size to duration. A large deposit over 30 days produces a headline APR that collapses the moment it ends. A moderate deposit over 365 days holds stakers for a year.
Partner pools should be reciprocal and simultaneous. One sided partner rewards tend to end with one community feeling farmed.
If the reward token is yours, it is still supply entering circulation. Dual token staking moves the emission. It does not remove it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is dual token staking on Solana?
Dual token staking on Solana is a pool where holders stake one token and earn rewards paid in a different token. The staking token and reward token are separate mints held in separate vaults, so a project can reward holders with SOL, USDC, or a partner token instead of inflating its own supply.
Can I pay staking rewards in USDC or SOL?
Yes. Any SPL or Token-2022 mint can be used as the reward token, including USDC, SOL and partner project tokens. You fund the reward vault upfront with the amount to be distributed across the pool duration.
Does dual token staking work with Token-2022 transfer fee tokens?
On StakePoint, yes, on both sides of the pool. Vault accounting reconciles against the amount actually received after the transfer fee is withheld, so the pool does not run short. Programs that assume the amount sent equals the amount received will under-fund the vault for fee bearing tokens.
How much does it cost to create a dual token staking pool?
1 SOL as a one time creation fee, plus the reward tokens you deposit into the vault and standard Solana network costs. There is no subscription and no tiered plan.
Does claiming rewards reset my lock period?
Not on StakePoint's current engine. Stake and claim timestamps are tracked separately, so you can claim accrued rewards without restarting your lock.
What is the difference between dual token staking and LP farming?
LP farming is dual token staking where the staked asset is an LP token rather than a plain token. The mechanics are identical. The difference is that APR has to price an LP token rather than a single mint.
Is dual token staking non-custodial?
On StakePoint, yes. Staked tokens and reward tokens sit in Program Derived Address vaults with no private keys. The platform cannot move user funds.
How is APR calculated on a dual token pool?
APR compares the annual USD value of reward emissions against the USD value of the total staked amount. Because the two tokens have different prices, APR moves when either price moves or when stakers enter and exit.
